Octopus is recruiting

The Organisational Development Team - 24 September 2010

Octopus is recruiting! We continue to grow and some of you may know that we recently moved offices to accommodate the increasing numbers of ‘Octopods' who work to deliver great service to investors and advisers. The people who make up Octopus are central to what we do, so we have a strong focus on recruiting and retaining great talent.

We've roles to fill across the business and unlike many other City companies, we consider exceptional people from different backgrounds, not just financial services. So if you (or someone you know with the necessary talent and drive) are job hunting right now, please send us your CV. You can find out more about specific roles at Octopus by looking at the ‘Join Us' page on our website; just click here.

We continue to grow and recruit and have been twice listed in the Sunday Times survey of ‘Best 100 SMEs to Work For'. However, we know it's a tough environment out there for candidates. So here are some top recruitment tips from our in-house team for you or anyone you know. This will give you a flavour of our approach and we also simply hope they help... happy hunting.

1. Create a killer CV - any spelling or grammatical errors and you'll be out of the running. Make sure it's factually correct, with good detail on your experience and no unexplained gaps.

2. Do your research - draw on all available resources to inform yourself about the work you want; use libraries, professional bodies and your contacts to research sectors, companies and jobs.

3. Be bold - make contact with recruiters and head-hunters and let them know you're job-hunting. Approach it as a mutually beneficial enterprise, and maintain regular contact, but don't whine or be pushy!

4. Prepare for interview questions - from showing your knowledge to fielding more awkward questions, be prepared, so you can draw on your experience to answer questions calmly.

5. Be truthful and positive - this applies as much to your job search as the interview. Focus on your unique set of talents and aims. Be true to yourself and you'll be on track to get an interview. Be truthful with an interviewer and you'll be on track to get a job.
